October 1

The Office Season 6 came today. It was the perfect ending to a long week. I immediately put it in and graded papers. No other show is perfect for grading papers while watching.

September 30

This is the harvest moon. Everyone was talking about it and school and saying how it looked so big in the sky and the best time to see it was at 9pm. They said it looked like you could just reach out and touch it. Well, I went outside at 9am and took this picture. It looks like any other night.

Also, did you know that during a full moon the kids behavior changes? It is a pattern I have already seen in my first two months of teaching. Of course, another teacher told me the reason why. I just noticed the change.

I am a science teacher, which means I do science experiments. This was a lesson on density. In this jar there is corn syrup, water and corn oil. If you look closely, you can tell they are separated because they are different densities. And then that plastic cube is floating between the water and the corn oil.

One day I may do more exciting experiments, but this is what they get for now.

There are days in teaching where I wonder what the heck i am doing. And then there are just moments throughout the day that make it worth it.

For example, two of my students who have the worst behavior asking to race each other in math facts and then working together nicely to help each other with the ones they missed. It is just great.

Why can't I take a good picture? What am I even looking at here? Not the camera.

Here is another installment of "Things you never knew about Randi and probably never needed to know."

  • I have a scar on my right wrist that I have had since I was 3 years old. I cut it on a pink plastic Minnie Mouse lunch box. I remember the night because it happened on Charleah's birthday and we went to Toys-R-Us. I was upset that I didn't get a toy and she did because I was the one who was hurt. It is also possible that I combined two memories. But I know I was no older than 4 because it was when we lived in Maryland.
  • I have a birthmark on top of my right knee. It is barely noticeable.
  • I have scars all over my knees. Most places where I fell on rocks and other place where I have a 2 inch scar from trying to climb over a fence.
  • I recently took some advil for the first time in order to help me sleep. Teaching hurts my body sometimes.
  • Lipstick on a cup after someone has taken a drink is one of the most disgusting things ever.
  • I check my alarm at least twice before I can sleep. One of my worst fears is setting it wrong and sleeping in past when I have to be at work.
  • I hate needles. The last time I got a shot, I fainted.
  • I have a natural talent of always grabbing the exact number of hangers I need to hang up clothes without counting how many I need or how many I grab.
  • I have stopped at a green light before. Or twice before.
  • I hate the beeping noise in the car when the keys are in the ignition and the door is open.
  • I want to be able to donate my hair to locks of love one day.
  • I also want to be able to tie my hair in a knot like on the shampoo commercials.
  • If you think I don't talk much, you don't know me very well.
  • A sore throat is the worst things in the world
  • I love to hear songs I like on the radio. Even if it happens to be a song I can listen to anytime on my ipod.

This is called "I didn't have a picture for the day. I know, I'll talk about leftovers!"

I hate leftovers. They are pointless. I hate saving them, I hate eating them, and I hate cleaning them out of the fridge because I didn't eat them.

However, there are a few recipes that just are better as leftovers. Like this cajun chicken pasta.

Cool story, Katie Holmes.

Are you ready to know a little bit more about Chris?

  • He is a picky eater. Instead of listing the things he doesn't eat, it would be easier to list the things he does eat. Meat, cheese, corn, green beans, berries, candy, chips, pasta, pasta sauce, potatoes, bacon, eggs,
  • He has a lot of knowledge. I honestly have no idea where he gets it all from.
  • His snack right now is sour patch straws and Dr. Pepper.
  • Speaking of Dr. Pepper, he drinks that. If you didn't know that, you don't know Chris.
  • He is very animated with children. They always smile at him and his silly faces.
  • He is very true to himself. Very rarely is ever does he adjust who he is to please someone else.
  • I always ask him to go through my crossword puzzles to get me more clues.
  • He always has advice whenever I need it and when I don't need it.
  • He is a democrat, but he is not closed to voting republican. To me that says he is open minded enough to listen to other people's viewpoints and decide if he agrees.
  • He wears glasses. When he went to the eye doctor, I didn't believe that he needed them. Well, he does.
  • He has some fashion sense. Although he is not dressing our children.
  • He has little patience for people who don't use their common sense. He can become quite comical when that happens.
  • He laughs at my jokes, which aren't very funny. But he makes me feel funny.
  • Sometimes he can be obsessive. When he gets his mind on some things, he can't stop.

September 24

Yep, I'm creepy.

Or just really excited that I got my first paycheck as a teacher.

September 23

Chris went to Kemah boardwalk with his Memaw today while I had to work. I would ask him to write about it, but he probably wouldn't.

He saw this turtle and showed everyone his picture of it. Can you tell what's different about it.

September 22

Kali keeps us entertained over her. She was trying so hard to have both of her toys in her mouth at the same time. I finally caught a picture.

There are a lot of Kali pictures on this blog. Basically, Chris and I just get a kick out of her.

September 21

Two girls in the class made me a sign and then had almost everyone sign it. I can look at this sign and remember that no matter how upset I get at them or what I take away from them, they are still going to like. That probably wasn't the intended purpose of the sign, but it helps me.

September 20

This kind of perfectly fits my life right now. It makes me feel a little better.
